Is Bao Bao’s Cozy Laundromat Too Idle for an Idle Game

by | Apr 3, 2025 | Game reviews

(1.5/5)

Idle games are a genre of video games where progression and gameplay is largely automated, allowing players to advance with minimal interaction. These games often serve as great background companions, providing a sense of progression without demanding constant attention.

Having developed a love for idle games after playing Rusty’s Retirement, I actively seek out new ones to add to my collection. I appreciate games that offer a balance between automation and light interactivity, making them great for multitasking.

However, Bao Bao’s Cozy Laundromat feels almost too idle. So much so that I found myself wondering if I was missing features or if the game was still in early access. Unfortunately, neither is true. The silver lining is that the game is affordably priced at just $4 USD.

Lack of Key Features and Engagement

One of the biggest letdowns in Bao Bao’s Cozy Laundromat is the absence of key features that could enhance the experience:

  • Limited Sound Customization – There doesn’t appear to be an option to change the soundtrack or background noises.
  • No Productivity Tools – Many idle games integrate features like a Pomodoro timer or focus aids, but this game lacks those elements.
  • Minimal Gameplay – There’s very little interaction, leaving a lot of downtime.
  • Lack of Decorations – Customization options are sparse, making the laundromat feel static.
  • Unclear Progression – The game doesn’t provide much guidance on when to upgrade machines or what benefits new machines offer.

How Does it Compare to Other Idle Games?

If you’re looking for a more engaging idle experience, there are better alternatives.

  • Rusty’s Retirement offers a great balance of automation and interaction.
  • Spirit City provides an atmospheric and interactive approach to idling.
  • Ropuka’s Idle Island does the “super idle” concept much better, offering extensive customization and rewarding unlocks. Plus, Ropuka himself greets you and waves when clicked—small details that add charm.

In contrast, I found myself clicking around the laundromat in Bao Bao’s Cozy Laundromat hoping for some sort of interaction, but there was none.

Technical Issues and Frustrations

Adding to my disappointment were minor technical inconveniences. Initially, I couldn’t find an option to dock the game at the bottom of the screen for better accessibility, though I eventually discovered it—albeit with a clunky implementation.

Final Thoughts

If you’re in search of a set-it-and-forget-it idle game that requires virtually no interaction, Bao Bao’s Cozy Laundromat might be for you. However, if you prefer an idle game that offers engaging mechanics, customization, or meaningful interactions—you may want to look elsewhere.

For now, I’ll be sticking with my favorites that offer a more rewarding experience.
