inZOI has added farming, mining, fishing, diving, and an entire free Island Getaway DLC. After spending some time exploring the new Cahaya island world, I’m diving deep (pun intended) into whether these updates make inZOI worth your time, or worth revisiting if you’ve been away.
What’s New
Cahaya: A New Island Getaway
The centerpiece of this free DLC is Cahaya, an island world that serves as inZOI’s first vacation destination. The attention to detail is immediately noticeable, from the beaches and tropical vegetation to the realistic resort environment, every corner feels nicely designed.
Unfortunately, as of right now, you can’t simply book a resort stay. You need to purchase an entirely new lot or house, which can be quite expensive for new players or those without substantial in-game money. I do think this is currently being worked on though.
Activities and Skills
Farming – Plant, water, and fertilize crops
Mining – Mine gems and resources from mining spots
Fishing – Cast your line with or without bait
Diving/Snorkeling – Explore underwater environments
While farming, fishing, and mining are fun additions, they don’t feel super interactive and lack the skill progression systems that make these mechanics engaging or worth investing time in. There’s potential for unlockable recipes, advanced techniques, or specialized equipment that could be gated behind skill levels, but right now, it feels relatively flat.
However, if you are a completionist or achievement hunter, inZOI now includes a collection guide. This feature tracks every fish species you’ve caught and every gem you’ve mined, giving goal-oriented players something to work toward.
Sailing and Underwater Exploration
The Island Getaway DLC added a boat rental system where players can navigate the waters around Cahaya with full directional control, actively sailing and exploring the coastline.
The snorkeling and diving mechanics add another layer of exploration. Renting equipment lets you dive beneath the surface to discover fish, plants, and hidden shipwrecks while avoiding dangerous sharks and jellyfish. The negative here is that you can’t openly control your character underwater or interact with anything.
What Still Needs Work
Relationship Dynamics
inZOI’s gameplay still remains somewhat lackluster in its relationship and social systems. The game’s approach to romance and relationships feels rushed; players can essentially marry someone within minutes of meeting them, which undermines the emotional investment that makes life simulation games compelling.
The lack of complex social dynamics, friendship building mechanics, and meaningful relationship milestones, especially when it comes to families themselves, makes the interpersonal aspects feel hollow compared to the game’s stunning visual presentation. I’d love to see some kind of lore or base we can build stories out of or drama we can start.
Career Content
The job and career systems also still feel underdeveloped. While inZOI excels at creating beautiful environments and characters, the professional life aspects that give sims purpose and progression need significant expansion, and this includes the newly added skills.
So Is inZOI Worth Playing Now?
inZOI remains a visually stunning game with tremendous potential, and the Island Getaway DLC shows the developers’ commitment to expanding the experience with free content updates. The new Cahaya world is genuinely beautiful and the added skills are a step in the right direction.
If you’re a gamer who prioritizes graphics and enjoys casual life simulation without deep mechanical complexity, inZOI offers you a fairly large playground to explore. The Island Getaway DLC does, in my opinion, provide enough new content to justify a return visit for former players.
However, if you’re still looking for or expecting deep relationship building, complex career progression, or intricate skill systems, you might want to wait for future updates to flesh out these areas.
